SPIRIT
Spirit opens us up to the power of the Holy Spirit to work within us. “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:7 NIV) The love we are gifted from the Holy Spirit should be directed toward others. We are not imparted with cowardice and fear, but given the power of love and sound-mind. We need to use these gifts to build-up our families, communities, our workplace, our church etc. Where is your spirit? What is your spirit opened too?
When we are at a point we have nothing else to give others, we can always give love! It’s free, just like the grace and love God gave you. There is not monetary value we can place on love, it is truly priceless. I am reminded of love through a letter received from Phika, a little girl from Haiti we sponsor, we can barely afford this step during this season in our lives, but we have stepped out. We have shared family photos, artwork, letters and prayers with her. Today we received a letter from her and her first words read, “I love your family”. That truly hit the heart in an amazing way, sharing such power of prayer and love with someone so far away. It was a real tear jerking moment.
My challenge to you today is step out and love, meet a neighbor, shake hands with a stranger, ask someone what’s on their mind and listen. I love sitting with the coffee club guys at the YMCA a couple times a week, it’s a wonderful opportunity to get to know others, listen to their stories, and maybe, just maybe give them the ear they need for the day.
